Meeting Times and Further
Details:
The
Institute was formed in November 1938
and is in the Staffordshire Federation.
Meetings
take place in Betley Village Hall on the second Wednesday evening of each month
at 7.15 p.m. We have visiting speakers on a wide range of subjects, covering
history, art, health, photography, alternative medicine, fashion, cookery,
plants and flowers. Several outings are arranged; this year the main ones are
Bath and Sandringham.
The
Institute elects a committee of up to ten members; with a President,
Vice—President, Secretary and Treasurer. Various duties are shared by the
remainder of the committee.
The
membership is 32 at the present time (May 1998). Friends and relatives are
welcomed to many of our meetings.
To
celebrate our Diamond Jubilee this year we are arranging a 1930’s-style Garden
Party at Betley Court, the home of Prof. and Mrs. Brown, involving many
villagers, including children.
The
W.I. has its own College in Oxfordshire and six members of our Institute will be
attending a weekend course there next spring.
We
receive the Staffordshire W.I. County Newsletter each month which keeps us
informed of County events and competitions,
e.g.
Wine Tasting in August and a Knitting and Stitching Show at Tatton Park
in September.
The W.I. has its own magazine “Home and Country”.
